PTA Fun Run 5k route revised

In a minor change the route of the five kilometre Fun Run for Saturday 24th March has been altered to avoid potential hazards.

The previous route took in the Boggs Holdings main road which lacks pedestrian footpaths. The revised route now avoids this, making it both safer and requiring fewer marshals on the day.

Parents enjoy school’s play

Local parents and family members enjoyed an original production of ‘Whoops-A-Daisy Angel’ performed by the kids from primaries one and two at Pencaitland Primary School on the 15th of December. There were two performances; mid-afternoon and that same evening. Below we’ve included a few pictures.

Provisional broadband stats reported in local press

The local media recently picked up on some of the preliminary statistics coming out of the Broadband Working Group’s efforts to find out how people feel about current local provision of broadband service.

The Broadband Working Group has been exploring practical solutions for bringing high-speed wireless broadband service to this part of East Lothian, in conjunction with the existing development of a working system by Lothian Broadband — a co-operative company set up to introduce a wireless 20Mbps service to a large geographical area roughly south of Haddington.

Extending this service to Pencaitland would deliver a similar speed of service, eventually with the potential to rise to 50Mbps, whether uploading or downloading from the internet.

If you haven’t had a chance to take the short survey please do so now. Your views will help inform any final decision your Community Council takes on an independent solution to rural broadband provision.

Church plans fundraising events to reach £70,000 target

As many villagers will know, parts of Pencaitland Parish Church are in a parlous state. In an effort to address the problems before they get any worse members of the church, along with Minister David Torrance, have launched a programme of events to help to raise £70,000 to make the building wind and watertight before the onset of winter.

Click here to find out more about how you can help raise the funds to make the village's church wind and watertight.

The great news is that, as of the 1st October 2011 the appeal has raised £47,000 towards the target.

A number of local events are planned over the coming months to boost the funds raised by the appeal. They are listed below in date order and further details, including ticket availability, will be posted on the church’s new website.

Meantime, if you want to know more about how you can help save this historically important building take a look at the appeal pamphlet [PDF].

Pencaitland Youth Football Club Open Day – 6 August

Ian Archer and the team behind the Pencaitland Youth Football Club are running an open day for new kids wanting to take part.

As Ian explains, “I’m sure you are missing your fix of football on a Saturday morning so luckily, ahead of the new season starting when the school summer holidays are over, we are having an open day to encourage more kids born in 2004/2005 to join the club.

New PYFC trials - 6 August 2011

Hopefully many of the current squads can come along and show the newcomers how it is done. We’ll have the usual mix of fun games and 4v4 matches.

Hope to see you and your kids on the 6th – note starts at 10am, not our usual 9am start.”

So if you have a boy or girl born on 2004 & 2005 come along to a fun morning of soccer 4’s on Saturday 6 August 2011 from 10am to 12 noon at Pencaitland Park.

PYFC aims to have the new 2005 age group up and running from 20 August and also has additional spaces in its 2001 & 2003 age groups. If you are interested in finding out more about these age groups, please contact Jim.

To confirm your place please contact Jim McAvoy at jimmcavoy1@btinternet.com or phone 07896 244 207.

For more information on the club, please visit the website www.pyfc.org.uk
