Keep Scotland Beautiful organises Climate Challenge Fund surgery

Keep Scotland Beautiful has organised a Climate Challenge Fund application and funding advice surgery for community groups across the Lothians.

The CCF fund has already supported many projects across Scotland.

The event takes place from 9.30am – 12.30pm on Thursday 18th July at Penicuik Town Hall.

The event is free, but anyone interested in attending is being asked to register via the online sign-up available via the event web page.

A presentation will introduce the CCF which will be followed by a Questions and Answers session and a one-to-one advice surgery.

In total, 563 projects across Scotland have received over £46.9 million in CCF funding to reduce carbon footprint and make community improvements. Time is running out apply for grants up to £150,000 per year with the next applications deadlines in September 2013 and January 2014.

Newest ELC Councillor Shamin Akhtar releases surgery dates

Following the 2012 elections of Councillors to East Lothian Council, the Fa’side ward gained a new face in Shamin Akhtar (LAB).

Shamin’s constituency surgeries were recently published. If you have any issues you’d like to raise you can see Shamin at the following times and places…

Shamin Akhtar

Shamin has lived in Pencaitland since 2007, moving to the village from Musselburgh with her partner Ryan and their two young children in Limekilns. After graduating from the University of Abertay, Dundee in Biotechnology she was elected President of her Students’ Association, going on to be elected the President of the National Union of Students Scotland. Shamin has subsequently spent much of her career in the voluntary and community sector, including more than a decade working for SCVO, the national umbrella body for Scottish charities. She has also volunteered with a wide range of charities and community groups over the last 20 years including Chair of a national housing organisation. Closer to home, Shamin has supported Pencaitland playgroup and volunteered with the school’s PTA.

Police Surgery this Sunday

Do you know who your local bobby on the beat is? This Sunday is your chance to find out.

From around 3pm on Sunday the 4th of March PC Robertson will be holding a surgery in the car park next to the Spar Shop and Post Office. Just look our for the Police van.

New posters from local MP and MSP

The Community Council has received new posters covering details of surgeries being carried out by our elected members to the Scottish and UK Parliaments.

Iain Gray is the community’s sitting local MSP and Fiona O’Donnell was elected the new labour MP for Westminster at the last election.

Whilst this information is normally placed in the noticeboard on Trevelyan Hall, we’re reproducing it here for your convenience.
