It is with great sadness that we have to report the sudden death over the weekend of William ‘Bill’ Wise, Pencaitland’s local Lollipop man.

Living in Ormiston, Bill has been a regular fixture at the Pencaitland crossing of the A6093 into the Glebe and many locals, parents and kids got to know him well over the years.

Always ready with a smile and some banter, Bill could be relied upon to be there whatever the weather. He will be sorely missed.

If we receive word on funeral arrangements we will report it here.

Oh, what sad news. Bill was lovely and friendly with children, parents/carers and grandparents alike. My mum would always have a chat and a laugh with Bill when she was doing the school run when visiting from Canada. He was always cheery, always wore a smile, even on the coldest days, always there for the children and keeping them safe, and always had time for children. He will be missed by us all.

Oh what sad news. Bill was a lovely man, all 3 of my kids loved to run up to him in the morning and after school, he always had time for them and a cheery smile. He will be missed by all in pencaitland.

We are so sorry to hear about Bill. We will all miss his smile and cheery outlook, which were a guarantee even with the worst of what scottish weather had to offer. He had a fantastic way with the kids and this is a sad loss for the school and for all of us with children. Our sympathy and thoughts are with his family.
