It was great to see so many people coming along and create the lovely atmosphere throughout the day. We also raised £1,952 in total.  A big thank you to our helpers, those who donated and baked, and those who came along to make our Fair a success.

Silent Auction raises £3,368.83

Efforts to raise the much needed target figure of £70,000 to make the local church wind and water-tight received a boost with the news that the jam-packed Silent Auction, recently held at Pencaitland Bowling Club, raised the impressive sum of £3,368.83.

Click here to find out more about how you can help raise the funds to make the village's church wind and watertight.

That figure may well rise further as some contributions were still coming in after the event.

It seems this sets the fund-raising effort well on their way towards hitting the target amount that will ensure the church can be adequately protected from the elements.

Don’t forget the further events still to come. these include the Christmas Fayre on the 26th of November in the Carriage House and a Quiz Night on the 3rd December in the Winton Arms. More details can be found here.

Pencaitland fireworks raises £5,981.50

According to Pencaitland Primary’s Parent Teacher Association, 2011’s fund raising enjoyed unprecedented success with over 2,000 people attending the fireworks display held last weekend.

The PTA attributes its success to good organisation and planning from the team headed up by Ian Archer and the record turnout which was helped by a clear evening.

PTA Chair Charlotte Taylor gave a big thank you, “to all the parents and teachers who helped run the event – we couldn’t have done it without you.” The PTA estimates that ticket sales have raised the unprecedented sum of £5981.50 which will contribute towards much needed resources and equipment at the school.

Photo News: Ben Nevis Fundraiser

Local man Ian Archer, better known as one of the enthusiastic parents behind Pencaitland’s Youth Football Club, spent last Saturday climbing Ben Nevis with friends and colleagues to raise funds for the Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide and Papyrus, dedicated to prevention of young suicide.

The effort was prompted by the tragic suicide of the son of a colleague at Ian’s work, Ingenza Ltd, based in the Roslin BioCentre. Along with his colleagues, Ian made it up and down in a day, but not without some inevitable consequences. “We’re all limping around our office today with very sore legs”, explains Ian.

But the effort was worth it with the Ingenza team raising over £4,000. As Ian adds, “The justgiving page will be open for a few more days for anyone who would like to sponsor us but hasn’t quite got round to it yet.”
