South East Scotland Scouts will be hosting an info night for parents to find out more about Scouting and how Scouting can get started in Pencaitland. To register your interest in Scouting starting up, email development@sesscouts.org.uk.

We can now report that his funeral will take place this coming Wednesday at Ormiston Parish Church. Minister David Torrance will be taking the service which begins at 10am.

Living in Ormiston, Bill has been a regular fixture at the Pencaitland crossing of the A6093 into the Glebe and many locals, parents and kids got to know him well over the years.
Always ready with a smile and some banter, Bill could be relied upon to be there whatever the weather. He will be sorely missed.

The slightly overcast and misty conditions were ideal for the more serious runners in the 10km race held today in Pencaitland village.
The Fun Run was organised by the Parent and Teachers Association of Pencaitland Primary School with the aim of raising funds for both the PTA and Pencaitland’s Playgroup. Turnout was higher than expected with plenty of entrants for all three routes. There was a 5km and 3.5km route on offer too.
When the numbers have been added up we’ll provide details of the winning times and funds raised. Meantime you can see snaps from today’s event below…

Pencaitland Community Council
Local man Ian Archer, better known as one of the enthusiastic parents behind Pencaitland’s Youth Football Club, spent last Saturday climbing Ben Nevis with friends and colleagues to raise funds for the Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide and Papyrus, dedicated to prevention of young suicide.
The effort was prompted by the tragic suicide of the son of a colleague at Ian’s work, Ingenza Ltd, based in the Roslin BioCentre. Along with his colleagues, Ian made it up and down in a day, but not without some inevitable consequences. “We’re all limping around our office today with very sore legs”, explains Ian.
But the effort was worth it with the Ingenza team raising over £4,000. As Ian adds, “The justgiving page will be open for a few more days for anyone who would like to sponsor us but hasn’t quite got round to it yet.”
Pencaitland Community Council
Neighbouring East Linton and Garvald & Morham Community Council have landed funding which will allow them to develop super-fast, next-generation broadband for their communities — residents who previously had very slow or no service at all.
The initial plan is to roll out a 20Mbps service to the communities and businesses of East Linton, Garvald, Morham, Gifford and most of the areas in between. That’s a full 12Mbps faster than the very best connections most people in rural East Lothian can ever hope to get at the moment.
The story began in 2004 when locals in Garvald were told by BT that their exchange would not be broadband enabled. Similarly the Morham area were told their telephone lines would not be upgraded to receive broadband from the Haddington exchange. That prompted residents and businesses within the Garvald & Morham community to seek funding from Leader Plus and East Lothian Council to set up a community wireless broadband service. The community won the funding, operating a 2Mbps service since June 2005.
