A very important project to upgrade an area of Dunbar that is under utilised and yet could provide so much more to the community.
Ewan McIntyre of EMA Architects and the owner of the Harbour Chapel has developed some very sympathetic and inclusive designs for this area
The status of the project is as follows:
The first element of the work would be the installation of the cycle store. We’re close to having funding agreed for it and expect it to be in place late summer / early autumn 2025. At the same time, East Lothian Council are planning to reduce the height of the brick walls around the proposed park area during the course of this year. The rest of the work would then flow from that.
The project is intended to breathe new life into a cherished neighbourhood by delivering:
A small neighbourhood park on the site of the former play area
Places to play
Spaces to meet
Improving biodiversity with more trees and plants
Greening the steps and lanes
Street Art
Improved lighting
Cycle parking
Better bin storage
The Dunbar Shore & Harbour Neighbourhood Group obtained grant funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) in conjunction with East Lothian Council to consult the local community about potential improvements to the streets, lanes and public spaces between Writers Court, Lamer Street, Colvin Street and Castle Street. East Lothian Council are also considering the provision of cycle storage in the neighbourhood and have recently submitted a planning application to remove some of the brick walls around the former play area.
