Stephanie Malcolm, from equine and country specialists Horse & Outdoor in Macmerry, is holding a fashion show to raise fund’s for Edinburgh’s Sick Kids.

Stephanie Malcolm, from equine and country specialists Horse & Outdoor in Macmerry, is holding a fashion show to raise fund’s for Edinburgh’s Sick Kids.

Taking place on the 29th June at 7pm, it’s being held at Horse & Outdoor located near Pencaitland at 21A Macmerry Industrial Estate. As well as the fashion show there will also be drinks, nibbles and a raffle.

As Stephanie explains, “We do fashion shows twice a year for various charities. We have always done horse charities but felt that the sick kids would benefit from our support. They are celebrating 20 years so felt it a great opportunity to get involved. We do a lot of non-horsey clothing for women, men and kids, so felt that it was a good way to get new faces in to see what we do and support a great cause as the same time!”

For further details you can contact Stephanie on 01875 824 298 or email Stephanie.Malcolm@horseandoutdoor.co.uk. Tickets for the event cost £5 of which £4 will go to the Sick Kids Friends Foundation. For anyone unsure of the exact location, there’s a handy map on the Horse & Outdoor website.

Rare Plants for Rare Diseases Sale raises over £850

From 10am on Sunday the StopwatchGardener (aka Sheila Averbuch) ran a sale of rare and unusual plants in order to raise funds for the neurodegenerative disorder Neuroacanthocytosis.

Only 10 people in the UK are known to have the genetic disease.

Rare Plants for Rare Diseases Sale - Sunday 6 May 2012

Despite the weather threatening to close in once again, most of the sale remained dry and sunny, with many crowding into the garden to enjoy locally baked goods and hot drinks.

Almost £900 was raised (now £930), with more proceeds expected over the next fortnight.

Huge thanks to all the plant specialists who donated rare or unusual examples towards the fundraiser and for all the help from many locals who produced some excellent baking for the day.

You can get further background on the plant sale by visiting the Stopwatchgardener website.

Below are a few photos from the day.

Or some video…

Great turnout for PTA Fun Run

The slightly overcast and misty conditions were ideal for the more serious runners in the 10km race held today in Pencaitland village.

The Fun Run was organised by the Parent and Teachers Association of Pencaitland Primary School with the aim of raising funds for both the PTA and Pencaitland’s Playgroup. Turnout was higher than expected with plenty of entrants for all three routes. There was a 5km and 3.5km route on offer too.

When the numbers have been added up we’ll provide details of the winning times and funds raised. Meantime you can see snaps from today’s event below…

NOTE: We hit a limit on how many pictures we can host on Flickr above, so we’ve uploaded Saturday’s snaps to the Photos section of Pencaitland Community Council on Facebook.

And a little video of the warm-up…

Look out for further pictures from around the course which we hope to be adding later. If you’d like to send one for inclusion email it to website@pencaitland.org.

PTA Fun Run 5k route revised

In a minor change the route of the five kilometre Fun Run for Saturday 24th March has been altered to avoid potential hazards.

The previous route took in the Boggs Holdings main road which lacks pedestrian footpaths. The revised route now avoids this, making it both safer and requiring fewer marshals on the day.

However the organisers are still looking for a few more helping hands. Please read on to find out how you can help…
