PWAs (Progressive Web Apps) are a new technology that combines the best of mobile web and the best of mobile apps to create a superior mobile web experience. A PWA is a website that can be installed on the phone like a native iphone or android app and can be accessed from the phone’s home screen instead of the browser.
By launching such an app users can interact with your website through an app-like interface.
This edition of the exhibition remains unofficial, only a proof of concept, intended as a mobile and accessibility friendly version of the physical installation, with AMP support added later in 2022, rendering original exhibition material from June 2020.
This digital version had been in suspended animation ever since, as the project stalled in the first week – but since I had started, I thought I would finish it, unusually for me 18 months later.
This exhibition was scheduled to be installed in John Muir’s Birthplace and opened on 1st April. However, due to the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the impact this has had on the preparation, production and installation of the physical exhibition, it is not yet known when the exhibition will be physically installed and opened in the Birthplace.
