Tell us about your organisation and why it needed a good website
Dunbar Civic Week is a volunteer led initiative with an outstanding track record of running a popular summer programme of events. When we started out in the digital world we created our very first website on Our Locality platform and got loads of help, but before long were confident enough to spread our wings and get our very on free standing, self hosted independent website, which worked well for us for a while.
Houston we have a problem!
The main reason for leaving was the perceived need to have a designed template, but as our needs developed we realised we need help and advice on day to day management of the site and archiving old content. In common with many community projects the initial support and enthusiasm from our helpers ebbed, and we felt we would be better supported with a host closer to home.
How did Ourlocality help resolve your problem?
With a little hands on help from the people at OurLocality, we were up and running with a fresh site in only a few days. We got help with reclaiming the domain from the host and had a local archive / backup of the site created too, just in case. We even got a little help and advice to rejuvenate the look of the site, recycling the design assets created for our printed brochure.
What would you say to others?
Try it out. The free offering – no domain included – works well for community projects with no budget at all.
And how much did it cost?
We are now on a fully supported plan and pay £72pa for the hosting, which ensures our domain is renewed (billed separately) and we have plenty of space for uploads, and also confident that if we need a helping hand, this is available and only an email or phone call away.
