Ourlocality is moving home

ol-movingWe are planning an important update and moving ourlocality to a new webserver.

This move should give us more flexibility into the future and save us a bit of cash at the same time, we hope.

We need your help to smooth the process, so we’re contacting owners one by one to check their domains continue to work. If you don’t have a domain mapped to ourlocality, you don’t need to read any further.

I own a website and a domain but do not use the domain for email

If you have a website with your own domain, but do NOT use the registrar’s email services (or for email forwarding) then all you need to do is create a new record in your DNS:

@ CNAME ourlocality.org

Everything necessary for your website to operate will be delegated to our server, in other words you transfer domain management to us, but not the ownership nor the billing. Your registrar will continue to bill you and when we have completed the server move, you are free to revert to the old method of pointing the website via our new IP address.

Instructions for owners who have an email@theirdomain.com

If you use a domain with your website that also handles email services, such as forwarding, you will need to change your name servers to our server hosts:

a.ns.bytemark.co.uk.
b.ns.bytemark.co.uk.
c.ns.bytemark.co.uk.

We’ll need to do some tweaks at our end to fix up your email services to ensure continuity.

Send us your mail exchange details (aka MX) if you are using google apps OR your forwarding addresses for each email. When we have completed the server move, you are free to revert to the old method of pointing the website via our new IP address.

Tell us that you have completed the change!
