Free Webspace and Free Support (since 2010)

Since 2010 we have provided free webspace and free support for all kinds of locally based projects.

From 2018 we introduced paid plans.

Free support continued on the forum.

As of 4 April 2023 we withdrew the forum entirely, as no one has asked a question for 18 months.

OurLocality remains open to anyone, to organisations, clubs, societies and individuals and you can sign up for free.

The free offering is stillavailable, but on a completely DIY basis.

Free assistance for selected projects or groups with very limited technical capabilities and no funds will be available.

If you want support by email you will need to be on a paid up plan.

We’re continuing to offer the free webspace but if you have a free website, you’ll have to DIY

What can I use OurLocality for?

  • to create a local news outlet that doesn’t rely on social media (and is free of advertising), but can integrate with it;
  • a place to park important information to help make your community more resilient;
  • a place to advertise an important new locally based service;
  • a place to create your own social network, that doesn’t monetise your information.

And a heck of a lot more.

The webspace offering is based on WordPress.org. Here is what they say about the platform:-

WordPress is software designed for everyone, emphasising accessibility, performance, security, and ease of use. We believe great software should work with minimum set up, so you can focus on sharing your story, product, or services freely. The basic WordPress software is simple and predictable so you can easily get started. It also offers powerful features for growth and success.

We believe in democratising publishing and the freedoms that come with open source. Supporting this idea is a large community of people collaborating on and contributing to this project. The WordPress community is welcoming and inclusive. Our contributors’ passion drives the success of WordPress which, in turn, helps you reach your goals.
