Put The Garden to Bed for Winter Workshop – 10th November 10:30 – 12:30 Belhaven Sensory Garden

 Kate Darrah is a Horticulturist who trained with the Royal Horticultural Society, Royal Botanical Gardens Edinburgh and Scottish Agricultural College. She has lead on the planting of Belhaven Hospital Sensory Garden. Come learn from Kate how to put your garden to bed for winter and enable soil organisms to break down mulch for plant food in Spring.

This workshop is hands on and includes:

How to weed thoroughly, without disturbing bulbs;

How to cut back herbaceous perennial plants, leaving those with attractive winter form (e.g. grasses);

How to deal with annuals, including saving seeds;

How to tidy woody shrubs/trees

How to deadhead and tidy roses;

Why and how to mulch; and

Protection for tender plants.
