NOTA BENE: WE WILL BE WITHDRAWING THIS PLUGIN 1 APRIL 2023, SO IF YOU ARE PLANNING EVENTS FOR 2023 PLEASE ACTIVATE THE NEW EVENTS CALENDAR PLUGIN
We all know the famous quote attributed to Harold Macmillan, as to what he feared most in politics:
Events dear boy, events
No prizes for guessing which John this is and which event brought Harry and John together.
Anyway, we are soon to retire our very own events tool, which has served us well. The new one integrates simply into the standard post format and requires almost no configuration. Looking forward, the old one will not work well or predictably far into the future, so we’ve spent a bit of time researching the options.
“Event post” seemed to us to be the simplest of the tools available, with few configuration options and fairly simple to deploy.
It is available to use as of today.
Any users who have future events will see that their posts have been updated already.
If you want to keep past event details such as dates, start and end times to remain visible to your users, there is a small job of manually updating those events. However the rest of the content will be preserved.
You do need to know that the new event tool is a bit different.
For example it doesn’t automatically add the event to the category “Events”, needed if you want users to be able to see past events e.g. via a Category menu.
If you never knew there was a tool, you don’t need to do anything at all.
If you would like to use the new tool, you will need to activate it via the plugins page and check the default settings suit you in the dashboard.
We like to turn off the ical links, change emojis to icons, but that is about it.
