A wish list
Will Valencia present us with a written report covering the following:-
- Basic facts and figures of waste processed for the last 3 years, including a breakdown of waste composition and their provenance (to cover the period since liaison meetings ceased).
- Numbers of waste vehicles arriving and leaving the site daily, weekly or monthly for the last 3 years
- The extent of storage facilities at Dunbar. How much waste can be stored in the event of poor (wind or rain) weather hampering operations?
- What is the protocol for ceasing operations in poor weather.
- How many days did the site have to be closed and covered due to adverse weather in the last 3 years?
- How many littering incidents have been documented over the last 3 years. Since the major (storm Otto?) incident an increase in the spread of litter has been observed, which collects along hedges, fence lines, walls and in depressions and springs as far as Skateraw and Barns Ness SSSIs.
- How many litter picks have been carried out and what was the mass/volume of waste collected on and off site.
- How many waste lorries can queue/park on the site at the same time? In the last year unmarked waste vehicles have used the Dunbar Cemetery to overnight, on the edge of a residential and popular walking area. There are no toilets at the Cemetery.
- We know it is possible that there could be batteries in any of those vehicles, so do the drivers sleep in the cab overnight?
- Material Focus last year found that there were over 700 battery-related fires in the waste and recycling system across the UK, how many of these were at Valencia operated sites?
- When is Dunbar the site scheduled to close to all wastes for good?
- What are the detailed afteruse plans for the site when it closes? Nearby communities will want to input, and would prefer a nature conservation oriented solution which also improves landscape views, including from a distance.
- What is final topography proposed – at a glance the new mound height seems to exceed the existing finished heights.
- What measures are in place to manage and control vermin such as rats, gull populations (a protected species) and feral cats? Does Valencia have estimates of numbers of these populations and any licence to control numbers?
- Has Valencia set up yet a local community benefit fund to help address the long term negative impacts of its operations? ( vehicles, the long term visual impacts, the odours, the litter, the fires etc)
