The shift to renewables is driving radical changes to our electricity system. How could we make use of the new opportunities this is opening up so as to ensure much more local, community control and benefit? How can we rapidly decarbonise our heating whilst tackling fuel poverty?

Sustaining Dunbar has been participating in the Community Energy Futures programme being run by Community Energy Scotland. More information HERE.

With support from Community Energy Scotland we will shortly be carrying out an options appraisal for decarbonising heat in a range of situations in rural (off-gas grid) areas around Dunbar. We hope that this will be just the first stage in developing some more detailed proposals, and securing funding, for some practical pilot projects. For some background to some of the challenges in tackling rural fuel poverty and meeting future heating requirements, this is a useful recent report from Commonweal: Carbon-free, Poverty-free_Heating Options for Rural Scotland
