A community coworking centre for Dunbar?

Sustaining Dunbar is hoping to buy the council’s former housing office in Dunbar High Street to create a “coworking centre” with a shared hot desking area, meeting rooms and studios. Members will be able to buy as much or as little time as they need from 7 hours a week to full-time.

The project will boost local business and support the Hight Street. Profits from the project will be invested in services like fundraising consultancy to help local community groups develop and expand.

The former housing office has lain empty for several years.

Andrew Goodall, a local web developer whose clients include the National Museum of Scotland and the Royal Lyceum Theatre, welcomed the plans:

I work with a group of designers and consultants in East Lothian. We all work from our homes. Several years ago we tried to create a shared work space in Dunbar, but we couldn’t find the right premises. It’s really exciting that Sustaining Dunbar is doing this now.
