The brief

Objectives of the study:

  • to establish a clear baseline of data on the current situation regarding domestic and commercial waste in Dunbar and District
  • to identify the outcomes and changes that the project will make, aligning with Scotland’s Zero Waste Plan, East Lothian Community Planning Partnership strategies and Sustaining Dunbar’s Local Resilience Action Plan
  • to scope out a path for reducing the amount of waste produced and for transforming the current culture from waste management to ‘value recovery’ and from linear resource use to a circular, closed-loop system
  • to provide financial predictions of the cost of developing the initiatives and activities needed
  • to scope out the possibilities for developing local enterprises that sustain quality jobs
  • to propose a suite of indicators for measuring progress
