The first thing we did was carry out waste audits at all the schools to see what their waste was made up of so we could see if we could support the schools to identify and then reduce and target particular waste streams. From this we found that most of the schools had similar issues. For instance food waste made up between 40-55% of all the schools waste and was the greatest weight of waste in all the schools.
Once we had identified the issues we wrote a report to each school with targeted suggestions on how we could work with them to reduce specific waste streams.
