CUK have been closely involved in pre-consultation on proposed changes to the Highway Code that would make cycling and walking safer, including:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the introduction of either a &#8216;hierarchy of users&#8217; or &#8216;hierarchy of responsibility&#8217;,\u00a0recognising that <strong>road users that pose greater risks to others should have a higher level of responsibility<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>a new rule tackling &#8216;left hook&#8217; collisions, giving\u00a0<strong>priority to whoever\u00a0is going straight ahead at an unsignalised junction<\/strong> (this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nCU-cDOcRIE\" data-id=\"21574\" data-name=\"d2ab06c9\" data-type=\"external_url_pb\">short video<\/a>\u00a0explains how it would work),<\/li>\n<li>new rules to address dangerous overtaking and \u2018close passes\u2019, with <strong>a guideline\u00a0minimum\u00a0safe passing distance of 1.5m at 30mph<\/strong>,\u00a02m at higher speeds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u200bThese are three of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclinguk.org\/sites\/default\/files\/document\/2020\/07\/highway_code_10_key_changes_0.pdf\" data-id=\"15055\" data-name=\"04696312\" data-type=\"external_url_pb\">10 key changes<\/a><b>\u00a0<\/b>that, if adopted, will make our roads significantly safer for cycling, and walking.\u00a0It&#8217;s vital that these changes make it into The Highway Code, which is why we need your help.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/action.cyclinguk.org\/page\/64572\/action\/1\">COMMENT NOW<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>CUK are encouraging people to write to DoT and to choose two others which are most important to you<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Answer a few quick questions and then you\u2019ll be taken to an editable email that you can send to the Department for Transport.<\/p>\n<p>You can see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/904038\/consultation-on-a-review-of-the-highway-code.pdf\" data-id=\"15055\" data-name=\"8b78b4f6\" data-type=\"external_url_pb\">full consultation documents<\/a>\u00a0and answer all of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartsurvey.co.uk\/s\/K736D5\/\" data-id=\"15055\" data-name=\"396e866f\" data-type=\"external_url_pb\">consultation questions<\/a>\u00a0on the Department for Transport website.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Cycling UK have summarised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyclinguk.org\/sites\/default\/files\/document\/2020\/07\/highway_code_10_key_changes_0.pdf\" data-id=\"15055\" data-name=\"efe74a12\" data-type=\"external_url_pb\">10 key changes here<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cycling UK thinks it is time to give way.
