If you would like hard copies of leaflets email <a href=\"mailto:customermarketing@scottishwater.co.uk\"><strong>customermarketing@scottishwater.co.uk<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Further information can be found online about everyone&#8217;s pipework responsibilities by visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishwater.co.uk\/responsibility\"><strong>www.scottishwater.co.uk\/responsibility<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some Scottish Water top tips in the meantime&#8230; <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_2406\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2406\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/pencaitland.org\/files\/2012\/10\/swater300px.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pencaitland.org\/files\/2012\/10\/swater300px.png\" alt=\"Protect your pipes\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2406\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Be Prepared For Winter. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottishwater.co.uk\/you-and-your-home\/be-prepared-for-winter\/be-prepared-for-winter\"><B>Tips<\/B><\/a> for looking after your pipes.<\/figcaption><\/figure><H3><strong>6 degrees C and up<\/strong><\/H3><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leave your heating on, using a low setting.<\/li>\n<li>If you live in a flat, leave the heating on low in rooms where the mains pipe supplies neighbouring flats.<\/li>\n<li>When you&#8217;re going away then make sure you have someone who can regularly check for any problems<\/li>\n<li>Should your neighbours not have a key for your home make sure they have contact details for someone who does, in case of an emergency.<\/li>\n<li>If your property is going to be vacant over the winter months, turn off your water supply and drain the system &#8211; a licensed plumber should be able to give you advice about this<\/li>\n<li>Now is a good time to locate your stop valve in your home<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><H3><strong>1C to 5C<\/strong><\/H3><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your water tank should be fitted with an insulation jacket or alternatively, the top and sides of the tank can be wrapped with suitable insulation material. Don&#8217;t place loft insulation under the tank, as this stops heat from the rooms below helping to keep the tank warm.<\/li>\n<li>Toilet cisterns, water tanks or pipes in exposed places or unheated outbuildings, should be insulated.
