{"id":834,"date":"2023-10-10T09:44:46","date_gmt":"2023-10-10T08:44:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ourlocality.org\/localdevelopmentplan\/?p=834"},"modified":"2023-10-10T14:00:05","modified_gmt":"2023-10-10T13:00:05","slug":"landscape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ourlocality.org\/localdevelopmentplan\/2023\/10\/landscape\/","title":{"rendered":"Protecting the landscape"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From <a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/fff18193832c4ee19baebec37ef840db\">Issues that will affect East Lothian in the next 10-15 years<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Landscape, Green Belt and Countryside around Towns<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">East Lothian has an attractive landscape which is protected by a number of designations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Green Belt<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can currently be found on the boundary between Edinburgh and East Lothian and aims to provide a defined edge to the City and prevent urban sprawl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Countryside Around Towns<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This designation is similar to Green Belt and protects key landscapes on the edge of settlements from development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Special Landscape Areas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This designation protects areas of landscape based on their inherent quality. It aims to only allow development that would not impinge on the characteristics of the landscape in question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Continued Protection of Landscape<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of these landscape designations will be important in shaping the approach to new development and policy in the new LDP.
