\"household<\/a>The Neighbourhood Transition Groups project<\/strong>\u00a0was launched under the name\u00a0\u2018Neighbours Together\u2019<\/strong>. A website was set up at:\u00a0http:\/\/neighbourstogether.org.uk<\/a>\u00a0and other publicity material prepared and distributed through schools, resident associations, newspapers\u00a0 and\u00a0 other networks e.g. East Lothain Council Community Planning Partnership.\u00a0 A baseline (\u2018Household Canny Challenge\u2019) questionnaire was developed to assess household\u2019s current carbon footprint, to assess households\u2019 interests, concerns and support needs and to enable them to make pledges of actions they planned to take. Households pledged to reduce their CO2 emissions through a range of activities related to household energy, food, transport and consumption.\u00a0 Each household was supplied with an action plan and with targeted information and support from our energy, food waste and transport staff.<\/p>\n

\"twenty<\/a>Support packs with information on Home Energy, Active Travel and Food were prepared and a \u2018contact management system\u2019 implemented to enable us to easily track and coordinate contact with households and provision of support. Where possible, clusters of participating households were encouraged to come together into \u2018Neighbours Together\u2019 groups, initially by finding hosts for \u2018Neighbours Together\u2019 gatherings.\u00a0 Some of the activities which came out of the Neighbourhood gatherings include:\u00a0 a neighbourhood Food\/ preserve swap, draughtbusting workshops, living street plans, bulk buying of insulating curtain lining, energy audits and worm box workshop requests.\u00a0 Several groups set up their own facebook pages \u2013eg.\u00a0Belhaven NT<\/a>\u00a0and are sharing and lending through\u00a0\u00a0Streetbank.<\/a>\u00a0Four, village-scale Neighbours Together gatherings were also held in Stenton, Spott, East Linton and Tyninghame.<\/p>\n

\"stenton<\/a>In October we started working with the village primary school in Stenton. This has proved a very successful way of reaching and supporting households. Following our workshop with the whole school (45 children from P1-7), children used the \u2018Household Canny Challenge\u2019 questionnaire with their families. This then led on to us working with the school to organise a \u2018Village Together\u2019 event in February.\u00a0 The benefit to the school is that these activities help them to work towards achieving their \u2018green flag\u2019 as well as helping them to deliver the curriculum for excellence. We have since started using a similar approach with three classes (p4 \u2013 p5) in Dunbar Primary School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
