EAST Lothian Council will sit down with ScotRail this month in a bid to see improvements carried out at Dunbar Railway Station.
Ambitious proposals to extend the car park and create a one-way system have already been drawn up in the hope that ScotRail give the idea the green light.
Ward councillor Michael Veitch, the local authority’s spokesman for transport and roads, was looking forward to the talks with ScotRail, which took charge of the station from Virgin Trains East Coast in July.
He said: “The main thing [from the meeting] would be to encourage ScotRail and to get a commitment from them to be involved in the proposal to extend the car park at Dunbar.” The plans would see a one-way system created through the existing car park on Station Road.
It would then join back up with Old Spott Road on the eastern side of Dunbar Parish Church.
The station is home to 76 spaces but a further 25 created through the proposal.
Another aspect of the meeting would be to see the car parking charge currently in place there scrapped.
Currently, Dunbar Railway Station is the only station in the county where people have to pay a charge – £4 to park for the day – to park their car.
Mr Veitch was keen to see the charge at least reduced, if not scrapped altogether.
He added: “We will be making the case to them that Dunbar is now the only one of their stations in East Lothian where there is a charge to park.”
