Dr Bike visits Dunbar Brownies

Extra visibility on your ankle can help you be seen and the up and down motion can give an indication that it is a bike from a distance.

Last Tuesday Dr Mark and I met the Brownies at Dunbar Primary School. It was a dreich evening but the Brownies managed to have fun riding their bikes in the playground, learning bike safety and how to check their own bikes.

I was really impressed by the number of girls who knew how important it is to wear bright clothing and to have lights that work. Visibility is even more so important this time of year as the nights are drawing in and the weather worsens. A splash of colour on all our keen Dunbar cyclists this Autumn will help to brighten our streets up. Mums and Dads, this isn’t an excuse to embarrass your kids and splash out on some hideous glow in the dark Lycra, just a simple pair of hi-viz reflective trouser clips will do and will not break the bank. Checking your reflectors are clean is a good idea too, now the streets are getting a bit wet and muddy.

Happy cycling – Dr Dan
