We developed a vision and action plan <\/p><\/div>\n

We first recruited two experienced project co-ordinators, with a complimentary skill set to orchestrate and develop the Dunbar – 2025 Vision and accompanying \u2018Local Resilience Action Plan\u2019. We adopted a simple conceptual framework <\/a>to help us focus on our objectives and keep the project on track.<\/p>\n

This vision and accompanying action plan has now been published on our new publishing platform http:\/\/ourlocality.org\/2025\/<\/a> while a summary leaflet has been distributed to every household in the Dunbar and East Linton ward. \u00a0The Local Resilience Action Plan itself covers not just the expected fields of Energy, Transport and Food, but also goes into Health and, Enterprise and Skills.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the plan is to provide a guiding framework for Sustaining Dunbar’s work in the years to come. It attempts to articulate in an accessible and useable format (and with clear links to East Lothian Council\u2019s Single Outcome Agreement) the actions that will be required to enable both short term changes and longer term structural changes e.g. in planning policy and the local economy, as we move to a low carbon future. The plan also describes the kind of supportive framework that will be needed at the neighbourhood level.<\/p>\n

The community engagement programme that took \u00a0place to develop this action plan has given us a baseline against which to measure future progress in building local resilience, including future carbon savings. The broad approach is summarised in this\u00a0presentation<\/a>, which was given to key stakeholders.

\nWe developed an innovative and robust community engagement process, which used a variety of participatory tools. We have engaged across the whole community, tracking the number, age, gender and geographical spread of those involved. In excess of 1500 individuals have had an input in some form through:<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 facilitated schools sessions<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 scheduled open events<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 High Street pop up shop<\/p>\n

\u25cf \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0local Library exhibitions<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 presentations to community groups<\/p>\n

\u25cf \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0website & email surveys<\/p>\n

\u25cf\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Facebook<\/p>\n

The home energy audits, Connecting Dunbar projects and other practical initiatives have also all been powerful vehicles for awareness raising, engagement and involvement.<\/p>\n

The results of this engagement processes have been carefully collated and analysed, informing the drafting of our fifteen year \u2018Local Resilience Action Plan\u2019 for moving to a low carbon future.<\/p>\n

The draft of the Local Resilience Action Plan was itself the subject of a further community consultation, with input and comment continuing throughout its evolution and development.<\/p>\n
