Socioeconomic impact

This is a very important matter and where community wind turbine projects can make the biggest difference. One of the main reasons we started the community energy project was to put money onto the local economy and create and sustain local jobs. The community wind turbine will bring £4 million into the community over twenty years.

Our consultants have assessed the impact that the community wind turbine would have on the local economy and more details can be found in our planning application.

Socioeconomic

“The construction of a wind turbine is considered to provide benefits to the local economy and provide a contribution to the Government’s carbon reduction targets. A poorly situated turbine may also have an adverse impact on the local economy. This section details the likely beneficial and adverse impacts of a wind turbine on the local and wider economy with regards to financial benefits, impacts on tourism, property prices and on the wider community.”

Conclusion

“The development of a wind turbine for DCEC will provide a strong positive socioeconomic impact to the area. The revenue raised from the sale of electricity will provide the community with a steady source of income to fund projects within the Dunbar and District area. The rental agreement with the land owner will also help to ensure financial viability of ongoing farming operations.

Individual assessment of the landscape and visual impacts on tourist sites within the area have been shown to be of low impact. This level of impact is considered to be insufficient to cause a detrimental effect on the attraction of these sites.”
