Are we a £22 community?

Each household in Dunbar and District currently pays an average of £22 a year from their electricity bill to help fund new energy sources such as wind turbines. However, if the amount we have to pay to fund new energy increases as expected, our community will pay  around £5,126,320 from our electricity bills into the fund.(1)

The Blackcastle/Cocklaw Community wind turbine is expected to earn £1,677,500 from selling electricity and another £5,337,500 for making “green electricity” from the fund we have paid into with our £22.

After paying for maintenance costs there will be around £4 million left for the community.

If we have to pay in to the fund through our electricity bills, should we not get it back?

Almost everyone in Dunbar and district has three things in common

  • We are worried about the rising costs of gas and electricity.
  • We all pay into the new energy fund through our electricity bills.
  • We would like that £22 a year to come back into our community.

How to support the community wind turbine

1. DECC published “Estimated impact of energy and climate change policies on energy prices and bills” in July 2010. At that time they estimated bill increases of £30 as a result of the existing RO (Renewables Obligation); increases of £64 as a result of extended RO and an increase of £10 as a result of the Feed in Tariff (all based on real £2009 prices)

Based on these figures the houses in our community will contribute between £4,625,920 and £6,060,200 over the next twenty years. This figure does not include any new houses being built or existing or future business contributions.
