{"id":277,"date":"2011-03-27T00:57:42","date_gmt":"2011-03-27T00:57:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ourlocality.org\/connectingdunbar2011\/?page_id=277"},"modified":"2011-03-28T08:31:53","modified_gmt":"2011-03-28T08:31:53","slug":"working-with-other-groups","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ourlocality.org\/connectingdunbar2011\/?page_id=277","title":{"rendered":"Working with Other Groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Schools<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Updated the Dunbar Primary School Travel Plan, and worked with the school to maintain the high level of active travel, particularly cycling.\u00a0 Began working with older pupils throughout their transition years to retain these levels into secondary school.<\/li>\n<li>Have helped Dunbar Primary School to successfully apply for Cycle Friendly School status.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Network Rail<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>We have recently adopted the local train station, planning to install a community notice board\/information point and display our pedestrian map in a prominent position outside.<\/li>\n<li>We are in negotiations to use the station car park to park a car club car.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Local Groups<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Building relationship with Sustaining Dunbar\u2019s transport group volunteers by attending meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Joined \u2018Brand Dunbar\u2019 group which is marketing Dunbar as a nice place to live and encouraging people to travel less by spending more of their time locally.<\/li>\n<li>Friends of Winterfield Park &#8211; We are working with this local group to set up a bicycle on road training site for local children.<\/li>\n<li>Working with Dunbar Primary School Parent Council to provide a free bus service for local people to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dunbarscifest.org.uk\/getting-here\/\" target=\"_blank\">SciFest 2011<\/a>. Produced flyer advertising this (see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ourlocality.org\/connectingdunbar2011\/appendices\/\" target=\"_blank\">Annex E<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Working with <a href=\"http:\/\/dunbarinbloom.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dunbar in Bloom<\/a> to enthuse local people to take pride in the street in which they live and create spaces that are for living in, not just for passing traffic.<\/li>\n<li>Advising <a href=\"http:\/\/dunbarwoods.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dunbar Community Woodland Group<\/a> on joining up their recreational path network with major walking routes around town.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Local Businesses<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Established relationship with Eve Coaches, the local bus company, with a view to working together to provide the services that are needed and promote bus travel.<\/li>\n<li>Negotiated a discount with a Ian Glass car-hire for Sustaining Dunbar members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Local Authority<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Building useful relationship s with Transport and Environment departments.<\/li>\n<li>Contributing to the East Lothian Transport Logic Model \u2013 a long-term plan of how ELC\u2019s transport policy will develop<\/li>\n<li>Working together to develop an Adopt-a-bus-stop scheme where local groups (e.g. Tenants and Residents Associations can use the bus shelter at the heart of their (micro-) community to display local news\/artwork). This is intended to have two main advantages \u2013 engaging local people with public transport and providing a hub for local networking.<\/li>\n<li>Actively contributing to the Community Planning process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>National Groups<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Working with Sustrans to re-route NCN 76 through Dunbar and give advice on cycle-route signage.<\/li>\n<li>SEStran is keen to trial their Real Time Bus Information service and we have had initial discussions to see if Dunbar would be a suitable pilot.<\/li>\n<li>Working closely with RAGES (Rail Action Group East of Scotland) to work with them to improve facilities at the train station, and campaign for additional services<\/li>\n<li>Attracted funding from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pathsforall.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paths for All<\/a> for a Walking Map showing pedestrian and cycle routes to the new primary school (opens August 2011). See\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ourlocality.org\/connectingdunbar2011\/appendices\/\">Annex D<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Have provided data gathered from the Connecting Dunbar Travel Surveys relating to train travel to the MVA Consultancy who are undertaking a feasibility study into enhanced rail services on the East Coast.<\/li>\n<li>HEALTHY ENVIRONMENTS (a national initiative set up by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livingstreets.org.uk\/scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\">Living Streets<\/a>\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sustrans.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sustrans<\/a>) is being trialled in a street in Dunbar and hopefully used as a model for other areas in town).<em> <\/em>This is a scheme where residents, members of the public and council officers work together to create a new design for their street which would enable and encourage the residents to be more active.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Schools Updated the Dunbar Primary School Travel Plan, and worked with the school to maintain the high level of active travel, particularly cycling.\u00a0 Began working with older pupils throughout their transition years to retain these levels into secondary school.
