{"id":192,"date":"2011-03-26T22:50:10","date_gmt":"2011-03-26T22:50:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ourlocality.org\/connectingdunbar2011\/?page_id=192"},"modified":"2011-03-31T13:19:15","modified_gmt":"2011-03-31T13:19:15","slug":"key-findings","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ourlocality.org\/connectingdunbar2011\/?page_id=192","title":{"rendered":"Key Findings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The full report, <a href=\"http:\/\/ourlocality.org\/transportsurveys\/\">Connecting Dunbar &#8211; Local Travel Survey 2011<\/a> is available online, and the key findings are summarised below.<\/p>\n<h3>Cycling<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Bike ownership rate for survey area is around 2.5 bikes per household<\/li>\n<li>65% of bikes are not used regularly, around 8000 in Dunbar alone<\/li>\n<li>Mainly used for journeys to school and recreation, only 9% of work trips are made by bike<\/li>\n<li>Our surveys suggest that almost 5000 trips are made by bike each day in Ward 7.<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Walking<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Our surveys suggest that around 13000 walking trips are made each day in Ward 7.<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Cars<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Car ownership rate for survey area is around 1.3 cars per household<\/li>\n<li>7000 local trips (less than 5km) are made in Dunbar each day by car<\/li>\n<li>Almost 450 local trips (less than 5km) are made in East Linton each day by car<\/li>\n<li>Over 1100 trips are made by car from Ward 7 into Edinburgh each day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Attitudes to Sustainable Transport<\/h3>\n<p>The main incentive for using the car less in the future would be:-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40% cost<\/li>\n<li>24% environmental<\/li>\n<li>21% health\/exercise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Measures which would help people to use their car less include<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>20% better public transport<\/li>\n<li>10% better cycle routes<\/li>\n<li>10% nothing<\/li>\n<li>10% cheaper public transport<\/li>\n<li>5% better bus service to villages<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>5% being fitter<strong> <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The full report, Connecting Dunbar &#8211; Local Travel Survey 2011 is available online, and the key findings are summarised below.
