New directors appointed

Sustaining Dunbar has appointed two new directors this year, Ettie Spencer and Elisabeth Wilson.

Ettie Spencer lives in Stenton and her first career was in the voluntary sector, including the East End of London, Belfast and Canada. More recently she had a career change and is now an environmental artist and occasional lecturer in fine art. Ettie has lived in East Lothian for 12 years and has been Chair of the Dunbar Arts Trust and a trustee of the East Lothian Foodbank. Her interest in Sustaining Dunbar comes from her commitment to tackling climate change. She has 6 children and 5 grandchildren.

Elisabeth Wilson lives in Innerwick and recently returned to Scotland (she was brought up in Edinburgh) after a long spell in Yorkshire. She has a background in social work, and more recently in teaching human resources, including to students from lower income countries. Elisabeth was a founder member of Treesponsibility, which plants trees and campaigns against climate change in the Upper Calder Valley. She has also been a trustee of an international development charity and a school. Elisabeth has adult children and grandchildren.

New board director sought with accountancy/finance skills

Sustaining Dunbar board has recently done an audit of skills and has identified in particular that someone with skills in accountancy or finance is needed. The board currently meets every two months, with some informal contacts in between (primarily email). This would involve:
• Oversight of the day to day finances, on a monthly basis.
• Assistance with grant applications, as they arise.
• A strategic overview of finance and funding.
• It would be an added bonus if an interest in social impact measurement could be developed.

Most of this work can be undertaken in the evening. All directors have a commitment to sustainability (economics, social and environmental) and participation. The board is keen to widen the diversity of its membership and welcomes applications from any and all of the community, but particularly from men and women under 30, as they are currently under-represented on the board.
