Jetpack and your Privacy

We just got an email in from the good people at WordPress.com, run by Automattic, who among other things nurture the software that we love from WordPress.org. As we allow our users to connect to JetPack services through a WordPress.com account, we thought we’d let you know. Some users may connect through an OurLocality account rather than their own, so will not have received any notification, which goes something like: We want to give you more information about how we collect and use personal information — in a more organized and readable format. It is snowing again

Sites hosted on OurLocality Free Website Hosting Platform based in East Lothian may have a light snow fall from today, which incidentally seems to follow your mouse. Did you know? 2) @ourlocality posts your news but not your pages

Thankfully @ourlocality won’t tell the whole world via its syndication services: https://news.ourlocality.org and twitter that you’ve just published a new ‘Page’ on your website. If you subsequently change a post, the snippet or the post title, it WILL automatically get updated on our East Lothian Local News Aggregator site. The twitter feed, on the other hand, won’t get fired again, so any updates that you make won’t show there unless you get there before the starting gun, usually fifteen minutes after you...

Did you know? 1) @ourlocality syndicates your news to twitter

Did you know that all your news gets re-published not just @ News.Ourlocality.Org but also on twitter @ourlocality? The News site first aggregates all published posts from the OurLocality network and then pushes it to twitter, after a short delay, which gives you a little time to correct typos and stuff. There’s a few reasons why this may not happen: your site is not public or searchable you have never created an event or post your posts are still draft or you restricted access (the private flag) you only update a static news page or other static pages If...
