New Opening Times

The Ridge Foundations Team are now working on the Backlands Garden site making repairs to the sandstone boundary walls as well as  within Black Bull Close.

This means that the garden will now be open to the public on a more regular basis (from 27th November 2017 open Monday to Friday).

We are also  restoring benches to place around the garden, so visitors and residents are welcome to come and enjoy the space at any time the gate is open.

The Backlands Are Officially Open

Members of the public are invited to pop in between the hours of 10-4 initially every Thursday and Friday to have a look and keep up to date with the latest goings on in the Garden.

The Backlands Garden is officially open for the summer after the building of a series of whin- dust paths within the garden in conjunction with Elementscotland and funded by East Lothian Council’s Civic Pride Fund. The new pathways have made the garden fully accessible to all.

The Garden will also be trialling a local food waste composting project. We have a number of worm boxes in the Garden that can be used to create create compost out of food scraps. If you live within the vicinity of the garden and would be interested in bringing in your food waste on a regular basis in exchange for some fresh vegetables and herbs then please either message the garden’s Facebook page or visit the site between the hours of 10-4 on a Thursday or Friday and speak to our team.

Pick your own

Thanks to the generosity of both the Civic Pride Fund and Community Windpower we have said goodbye to the heras fencing and hello to a lovely trellis and stunning new gate. We are quite sure, here at The Ridge that no-one was sad to see the back of the heras. The Backlands Garden is really going from strength to strength. Please feel free to pop in  – we usually have a sign out to say that the garden is open and our wonderful gardeners and team of volunteers have been so busy that we can now offer a Pick Your Own option. Wonderfully tasty veg grown right here in the heart of Dunbar where once there was only wasteland.

If you feel that you would like to volunteer in the Gardens just ask one of the gardeners for information or get in touch via email:
