Dunbar has won its Seaside Award again this year – thanks to a lot of hard work by volunteers and East Lothian Council! We get our flag in June and will raise it on the 2nd of that month…..then we’re off to see what we can collect on the beach. Come and join us

Josie Tweddle was one of the founder members of the Dunbar Shore and Harbour Neighbourhood Group and remained a loyal supporter of the Group’s activities. It was with profound sorrow we learned of her death last week.

Her funeral will be held at Dunbar’s Methodist Church at 11 o’clock on Thursday 25th April and all are welcome.

Gardening under way

Members of the Neighbourhood Group have already helped with the Spring weeding of the flower bed outside Blair’s works and the wild flower garden beside Colvin Street. We are now just hoping for warmer weather!

Plans are being drawn up to see whether we can turn the area shown in the photo into more of a gateway to Dunbar Harbour. Please contact Ian Dale, Brian Cox or Kevin Heffernan if you are interested in helping with this project.

Harbour Development – Final Public Meeting

Coastlife Centre – Feasibility Study Report

Phoenix Economics has now published the Final Report for the Coastlife Centre and it makes great reading.

The essence of the findings was that a Coastlife Centre with Igloovision at its heart would be a great asset to Dunbar. It would run at a small profit with modest ticket prices of £5/£2.50 and just 25,00 visitors a year (The John Muir Birthplace gets 28,000 visits pa). It is estimated that the Centre would generate an additional £500,000 income a year for local businesses.

Our next step is to try to buy the Amusement Arcade site and, following that, to seek funding to build the Centre. It may take a while but it is possible that 2014 could see a Centre here!
